The two images at left were taken in Mt. Jewett, PA, a declining industrial town in NW PA. The other images on this page were taken on the upper floor of the Whipple Company Store (at right) in a coal mining town in West Virginia (the mines long since shut down). These types of stores were the only places a miner could purchase goods since he was paid with script that was good only at the company store.
